This is a surgical procedure to remove a collection of pus (infection) from the spinal column. The pus can sometimes collect around the spinal cord or nerve root, causing it to be compressed. Once the pus has been drained, the spine is sometimes stabilised with screws, rods and, in more rare cases, cages.
